On This Date In Twin Cities History - May 27, 1858

On this date in 1858, the U.S. army withdraws troops from Fort Snelling, having decided that the fort is no longer an essential outpost. Military personnel would return in 1861 to train recruits for the Civil War. (MNopedia)
