On This Date In Twin Cities History - May 12, 1806

On this date in 1806, James Shields, one of the first two Senators to represent Minnesota in the 35th United States Congress, is born.  He was born in Altmore, County Tyrone, Ireland and emmigrated to America around 1826.  Shields is the only person in United States history to have served as Senator for three different states (Illinois, Minnesota and Missouri).
